Method and apparatus for generating and utilizing feedback control signals to control the pump speed, and on/off condition, in a producing well using a sucker rod pump system are provided. An inexpensive accelerometer transducer of the magnetostrictive or piezoelectric type is fixedly attached to the pumping unit support structure, preferably on the sampson post. Output from the accelerometer is digitized and transmitted to a small processing computer or microprocessor. The processor computer uses a pattern recognition technique, such as a digital signal processing and/or Fourier Series analysis, with respect to the accelerometer signal to detect the presence of fluid pounding. Output signals from the processing computer are used to control the pump speed of the prime mover in the pumping system or to turn it off. The quantitative accelerometer signals can be processed to detect a very slight fluid pound condition. Since the fluid pound vibrations are mechanically coupled directly from the sucker rod string to the support structure at the surface, including the sampson post, ambiguities in the measurement caused by sucker rod condition are eliminated.
L'invention est constituée par une méthode et un appareil servant à produire et à utiliser des signaux de commande à rétroaction pour commander le débit de pompage et la mise sous tension d'un système de pompage à tige de pompage installé dans un puits de production. Un transducteur à accéléromètre peu onéreux du type magnétostrictif ou piézoélectrique est fixé à la structure de soutien de l'unité de pompage, de préférence sur le montant. Le signal de sortie de l'accéléromètre est numérisé et est transmis à un petit ordinateur de traitement ou à un microprocesseur. L'ordinateur de traitement utilise une méthode de reconnaissance de formes, telle qu'une méthode de traitement de signaux numériques et/ou une analyse en série de Fourier, pour examiner le signal de sortie de l'accéléromètre afin d'y détecter la présence de chocs produits par un fluide. Les signaux de sortie de l'ordinateur de traitement sont utilisés pour commander la vitesse du mécanisme d'entraînement du système de pompage ou le mettre hors tension. Les signaux quantitatifs de l'accéléromètre peuvent être traités pour détecter des chocs très faibles. Étant donné que les vibrations dues aux chocs sont directement transmises de la tige de pompage à la structure de soutien qui se trouve à la surface, y compris le montant, les incertitudes de mesure causées par la tige de pompage sont éliminées.
