ABSTRACT The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for explosion protection of installations, conduits and similar systems through monitoring time-sequential pressure values in the explosion-hazard areas of such systems and comparing these values with a pre-determined threshold pressure value, wherein explosion protection means are applied when the threshold value, a so- called activation criterion, is exceeded. According to the invention, the threshold value is not a fixed, or constant, value but is continuously updated depending on the pressure existing in the system at each time. Thus, the threshold value can be set at a narrower safety margin over the system pressure than in the prior art methods.
