Fast recovery is provided from transient loss of a received carrier in a satellite or terrestrial modem. A carrier tracking loop, loop filter and steering loop are provided in the modem. The occurrence of a transient condition affecting the carrier tracking loop is detected. The loop filter is flushed in response to the transient detection for a time period dependent upon an anticipated length of the transient condition. A voltage of the loop filter is steered toward a predetermined pre-transient value during the flushing step to minimize any change in frequency of the carrier tracking loop when the loop filter is flushed. After the filter has been flushed, the carrier tracking loop attempts to quickly reacquire the carrier.
L'invention est constituée par une méthode utilisée pour revenir rapidement à la normale après une perte de porteuse occasionnée par un transitoire dans un modem de communication par satellite ou de communication terrestre. Une boucle de détection de porteuse, un filtre de boucle et une boucle de guidage sont installés dans le modem. Les transitoires qui perturbent la boucle de détection de porteuse sont détectés. En réponse à la détection d'un transitoire, le filtre de la boucle est activé durant une période de temps qui dépend de la durée prévue pour ce transitoire. Dans le filtre, une tension est contrainte vers une valeur de prétransitoire prédéterminée durant l'activation du filtre pour minimiser alors toute variation de fréquence dans la boucle de détection de porteuse. Quand le filtrage est terminé, la boucle de détection de porteuse se remet rapidement à la recherche de la porteuse.
