The present invention relates a method and apparatus for applying an insulating film which is impregnated with a curable resin to a solid body. The method is comprised of the steps of providing a vessel for holding the solid body and the insulating film and placing the insulating film over at least a portion of the solid body. The method further includes placing the insulating film and the solid body into the vessel; placing a large number of solid particle bodies into the vessel to embed the insulating film and the solid body and embedding a pressurizing unit containing a gas or a liquid in the large number of solid bodies. The pressurizing unit is then heated to cause thermal expansion of the gas or liquid thereby causing an expansion of the pressurizing unit to create a pressing force, which, through the large number of solid bodies presses the insulating film onto the surface of said solid body. A simultaneous curing of the impregnated resin then takes place. The invention also includes an apparatus for carrying out the method. The apparatus is comprised of a vessel for containing the solid body and the insulating film; a group of solid particle bodies in which the solid body is embedded; and a pressurizing unit which is embedded in the group of solid particle bodies. The pressurizing unit contains a gas or liquid for pressing the group of solid particle bodies caused by thermal expansion of the gas or liquid so that a pressing force is created by heating the pressurizing unit. The pressuring force is applied to the insulating film via the group of solid particle bodies to press the insulating film into the solid body. The resin is then cured.
