A method of freezing food products which includes arranging the articles in individual mutually segregated complimentary shaped compartments of relatively shallow trays. Stacking the trays of food products in carriers having openings. The openings are configured and arranged to accommodate air flow through the stacked trays and across the food articles. The filled carriers are then placed on a conveyor of a spiral freezer where cold air blows through the carriers and across the food articles. Once the food articles are frozen the carrier exits the freezer and packaged.
