The body (2) of a preform (1) or intermediate container made of thermoplastic material is heat treated during a process for manufacturing a container such as a flask or bottle, in particular by blow moulding or blowing and drawing. The whole of the preform body (2) is heated to a temperature above the softening point of the material, and at least one longitudinal portion (13) of the perform body (2) rotating about its own axis is at an even higher temperature than the rest (14) of the body, whereby a final container with a complex shape may be obtained.
