The invention relates to a process and a plant for the thermal treatment of waste materials in which the waste materials (20) are subjected to pyrolysis in a first thermal treatment region (1), the resultant pyrolysis gas is cleared of dust (16) to the extent of at least 90 % and then burned (3). The nitrogen content of the flue gas thus produced may then be either directly removed non-catalytically (5') or catalytically removed (5) after the flue gas has cooled (4). Following possible nitrogen removal, the flue gas is cleaned of pollutants by the addition of correspondingly reactive additives (28) in a filter (6).

L'invention concerne un procédé ainsi qu'une installation dans laquelle les déchets (20) sont soumis à une pyrolyse dans une première zone de traitement thermique (1). Le gaz résultant de la pyrolyse est dépoussiéré (16) à au moins 90 % puis brûlé (3). Le cas échéant, l'azote contenu dans le gaz de combustion ainsi obtenu est directement enlevé par voie non catalytique (5') ou bien d'abord refroidi (4) puis enlevé par voie catalytique (5). Juste après l'éventuel retrait de l'azote, le gaz de combustion est épuré des substances nocives par adjonction de produits réactifs (28) correspondants dans un filtre (6).
