ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for image analysis of a composite ore stream comprising: supplying a sample of the composite ore stream to be analyzed between a video camera and illuminators which provide both diffuse, uniform background light and bright light at a low angle referenced to the camera; plane of the sample stream which essentially does not directly enter the camera; synchronizing the flashing of the illuminator with the video camera to permit the camera to view the sample composite ore stream; storing the matrix of picture elements captured by the camera; scanning the stored matrix to determine the relative concen- trations of translucent and opaque components of the composite ore.
