A method for improving fault isolation for failure modes in complex systems, and a software program embodying the method or a corresponding method together with a computer based aircraft diagnostic system using such software is described. The method includes: capturing a set of symptoms that is consistent with a failure mode of the complex system; identifying a set of repairs for the complex system that are consistent with the set of symptoms; ranking, when the set of repairs includes more than one repair, the repairs in a sequence that will minimize an average cost to repair the complex system, the sequence including a historical component and reflecting the effectiveness of available test results to resolve each the repairs; determining possible tests that are consistent with the failure mode; and ranking the possible tests according to there respective net improvement in the average cost to repair the complex system, then, preferably, selecting a test and obtaining a test result and repeating above processes until only one repair remains.
L'invention concerne un procédé d'amélioration de la localisation d'incidents destiné aux modes de défaillance de systèmes complexes. L'invention concerne également un programme de logiciel faisant appel audit procédé ou à un procédé correspondant et un système de diagnostic informatique de bord utilisant ledit logiciel. Ce procédé consiste : à capturer un ensemble de symptômes qui soit compatible avec un mode de défaillance dudit système complexe ; à identifier un ensemble de réparations du système complexe qui soit compatible avec l'ensemble des symptômes ; à classer, lorsque l'ensemble de réparations comprend plus d'une réparation, les réparations en une séquence qui minimisera un coût moyen des réparations du système complexe, ladite séquence comprenant un composant historique et reflétant l'efficacité des résultats du test disponibles pour résoudre chaque réparation ; à déterminer les tests possibles qui sont compatibles avec le mode de défaillance ; et à classer les tests possibles selon leurs améliorations nettes correspondantes dans le coût moyen pour réparer le système complexe, puis, de préférence, à sélectionner un test et à obtenir un résultat de test. Ces étapes susmentionnées sont répétées jusqu'à ce qu'il ne reste qu'une seule réparation à effectuer.
