A method and wearable system and for enhancing human balance and gait and preventing foot injury through neurological stimulation of the foot and the ankle. Subthreshold stimulation for neurosensory enhancement is provided via electrodes or vibrational actuators (23), or combination thereof, disposed in or on a wearable a platform (21), such as an insole (24), sock shoe (53), removable shoe insert (21), or applied without the support of a platform, to the skin surface of an individual. Suprathreshold stimulation for therapeutic purposes, such as improving blood flow, is also provided by the vibrational actuators. The actuators and electrodes are driven by bias signals generated by a bias signal generator that is coupled to a controller (22). The signal generator under the control of the controller (22) is adapted to generate a non-deterministic random signal, a repetitive pattern or series of patterns. The controller optionally includes a communication port for interfacing with an external computer for purposes of optimizing and programming the controller. The wearable system is powered by a power source.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un système portable pour renforcer l'équilibre et la démarche de l'humain et prévenir des blessures au pied par le biais de la stimulation neurologique du pied et de la cheville. La stimulation infraliminaire pour le renforcement neurosensoriel est assurée par des électrodes ou des actionneurs vibratoires, ou une combinaison de ceux-ci, placés dans ou sur une plate-forme portable, par exemple une semelle, un chausson, une garniture intérieure de chaussure amovible, ou appliqués sans le support d'une plate-forme sur la surface de la peau de l'individu. Elle concerne en outre une stimulation supraliminaire destinée à des fins thérapeutiques, par exemple améliorer la circulation sanguine, exercée par des actionneurs vibratoires. Les actionneurs et les électrodes sont excités par des signaux de polarisation produits par un générateur de signaux de polarisation couplé à un régulateur. Le générateur de signaux commandé par le régulateur est conçu pour produire un signal aléatoire non déterministe, un motif ou une série de motifs répétitifs. Le régulateur comprend éventuellement un port de communication assurant l'interface avec un ordinateur externe, ce qui permet d'optimiser et de programmer ledit régulateur. Le système portable est alimenté par une source d'énergie.
