A method and apparatus is disclosed for use in an implantable device that communicates with an external device through pulse position modulation. A timing generator is provided as part of said implantable device that determines the phase uncertainty between an external signal and an internal clock signal. The phase uncertainty then is added to the preset delay period to more precisely control the position of the response. The phase uncertainty is measured by a dual slope circuit that varies a state variable (which can be a digital timer, a capacitor voltage, or the like) at a fixed rate with either a positive or negative slope. When the external signal is detected, the state variable is reset and then decreased at a fixed rate until the next positive edge of the clock signal. The state variable then is increased at the same rate until the subsequent positive clock edge. The resulting variable value is proportional to the phase uncertainty. When the delay timer reaches zero, the state variable is again decreased at the same fixed rate until the initial value is reached, at which the output response is generated.
Procédé et appareil destiné à être utilisé dans un dispositif implantable qui communique avec un dispositif externe par modulation d'impulsions en position. Un générateur de synchronisation est intégré au dispositif implantable et détermine l'incertitude de phase entre un signal externe et un signal d'horloge interne. L'incertitude de phase est ensuite ajoutée au temps de retard prédéterminé afin de contrôler plus précisément la position de la réponse. L'incertitude de phase est mesurée par un circuit à double pente qui fait varier une variable d'état (qui peut être une horloge numérique, une tension de condensateur ou autre) à une cadence fixe soit avec une pente positive, soit avec une pente négative. Lorsque le signal externe est détecté, la variable d'état est réinitialisée, puis décrémentée à une cadence fixe jusqu'au front suivant du signal d'horloge. La variable d'état est ensuite incrémentée à la même cadence jusqu'au front suivant positif du signal d'horloge. La valeur de la variable obtenue est proportionnelle à l'incertitude de phase. Lorsque l'horloge à retard arrive à zéro, la variable d'état est à nouveau décrémentée à la même cadence fixe jusqu'au moment où la valeur initiale soit atteinte, moment auquel est générée la réponse de sortie.
