ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: A method of incorporating glass fibres into thermoplastic plastics, in which the glass fibres are continuously mixed into molten thermoplastic plastic and the resulting mixture is moulded into a shaped product and optionally reduced in size. The method is characterised in that the glass fibres are preheated to a temperature below or approaching the fusion temperature of the plastic, the preheated glass fibres and the molten plastic are supplied separately to a premixing dome and are mixed therein, and the preliminary mixture thus obtained is continuously supplied directly to a two-stage degasification screw extruder for homo- genization. An apparatus is also disclosed for carrying out the above method, which includes a two-stage degasification screw extruder having a feed inlet and an outlet provided with an ex- trusion tool. The apparatus of the invention comprises a pre- mixing dome having a first inlet connected to a device for feed- ing preheated glass fibres, a second inlet connected to a fusion extruder for supplying molten thermoplastic plastic and an out- let opening directly into the feed inlet of the degasification screw extruder and mixing means in the premixing dome to effect a preliminary mixture of the preheated glass fibres and molten thermoplastic plastics. The invention enables one to carry out the incorporation of the glass fibres in the thermoplastics with as much care as possible, i.e. to avoid excessive breaking of the glass fibres and at the same time to reduce the mechanical abrasion, in particular as a result of the friction with the glass fibres, of the mixer parts concerned.
