The invention relates to a method and apparatus for increasing the production output of the cigarette making machines equipped with carded drums or by a single column metering and opening device as final metering and opening devices. The aim of this invention is to decrease the amount of the trimmed tobacco or to eliminate the tobacco trimming process all together. As a result the conversion efficiency of tobacco, which is pushed through the hopper, chimney and assembled on the tape of the suction conveyor, into cigarettes will improve, leading to an additional production output without affecting the quality of the produced cigarettes.
