A method and apparatus to inhibit the piracy of motion pictures in theaters by taking advantage of the frame rate discrepancies between film (or digital) display and video camcorders. By alternating specific image display intervals and, shuttering cadences, or with digital video projectors commanding a similar modified display via the digital projector's blanking and display capabilities, so that the projected images occur in a random and/or phase shifted manner, objectionable distortions are produced in an illicitly captured video image, while being invisible to theatrical viewers. In addition, various serrated, slit, multi-quadrant or spotted patterns may be used on mechanical shutters, or simulated on digital displays, to further degrade the quality of illicitly captured video by pirates in theaters.
L'invention porte sur une méthode et un appareil empêchant le piratage des films dans les cinémas et tirant avantage des différences de vitesse des images entre les films (ou les représentation numériques) et les caméscopes. En faisant alterner les intervalles spécifiques de présentation des images et les cadences d'obturation, ou en utilisant des projecteurs vidéo commandant une présentation similaire par l'intermédiaire de l'extinction numérique du projecteur et des capacités de présentation de manière à ce que les images se présentent en ordre aléatoire et/ou en décalage de phase et produisent des distorsions désagréables des images capturées illicitement, tout en étant invisibles pour les spectateurs du film. On peut par ailleurs utiliser différents motifs, dentelés, à fentes, à plusieurs quadrants, ou à tâches, sur les obturateurs mécaniques, ou simulés, pour dégrader encore plus la qualité des vidéos capturées illicitement par des pirates dans les cinémas.
