This invention is an instrument (10) for inserting a flexible intraocular lens or other flexible membrane into an eye, which includes a compressor (26) for laterally compressing the lens into a small cross-sectional configuration to pass the lens through a narrow incision. The compressor includes retainers (68, 70) along the interior of the inserter to maintain the side edges of the lens in a substantially planar orientation during compression. The retainers preferably extend through the inserter to hold the lens during advancement toward the eye to prevent an uncontrolled rotation of the lens.
Instrument (10) pour introduire une lentille intraoculaire soupleou une autre membrane souple dans l'oeil, comprenant un dispositif de compression (26) pour comprimer latéralement la lentille de sorte que sa section soit petite et qu'elle puisse passer dans une incision étroite. Le dispositif de compression est équipé d'éléments de retenue (68, 70), le long de l'intérieur du dispositif d'insertion, afin de maintenir les bordures latérales de la lentille dans une configuration sensiblement plane durant la compression. De préférence, les éléments de retenue s'étendent tout le long du dispositif d'insertion, pour maintenir la lentille pendant sa progression vers l'oeil, et empêcher toute rotation intempestive de la lentille.
