METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR INSERTING FILM TRANSPARENCIES INTO SLIDE MOUNTS Inventor: Edwin R. Thompson ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of automatically inserting film transparencies into pre-closed slide mounts having a pocket therein for receiving the inserted transparency and wherein the slide mounts to be loaded are positioned in a loading station, a film strip is advanced endwise toward a respective slide mount in the loading station, the leading end portion of the film strip is cut off to form a film transparency in readiness to be loaded into the respective slide mount, the film strip is bowed longitudinally along the film strip for providing longitudinal stiffness in the film strip, and the freshly cut end of the bowed film strip is used for pushing the film transparency through an entranceway into the pocket in said respec- tive slide mount, characterized by the steps of cutting off the leading end portion of the film strip while said leading end por- tion is entirely outside of said entranceway; then advancing the bowed film strip longitudinally along a forward stroke distance equal to the length of the film transparency plus an additional extent of forward travel slightly greater than the distance through said entranceway into said pocket for pushing the transparency completely through said entranceway into said pocket; and retract- ing said bowed film strip longitudinally by an amount of rearward travel approximately equal to said additional extent of forward travel; thereby enabling pre-closed slide mounts to be used in a fast-loading cycle having entrances which are only slightly wider than the width of the transparency to be inserted therein. Apparatus for automatically inserting film transparencies for performing the aforementioned method is also described.
