In a WDM optical communication system that includes a plurality of nodes interconnected by communication links, a node is provided that includes a plurality of transponders (20, 60) each generating and/or receiving an information-bearing optical signal at a different channel wavelength from one another. An optical coupling arrangement (30, 32), which may include one or more reconfigurable optical switches, transfers the channel wavelengths between a link connected to the node and the plurality of transponders (20, 60). The arrangement (30, 32) is adaptable to reconfigure its operational state to selectively direct different ones of the channel wavelengths from the link to different ones of the transponders (20, 60) without disturbing the optical path through the node traversed by any other channel wavelengths. A communications and configuration arrangement is provided, which transfers data identifying the respective channel wavelengths at which the transponders (20, 60) operate from the transponders to the optical coupling arrangement (30,32).
Dans un système de communication optique à multiplexage en longueur d'onde qui comprend une pluralité de noeuds reliés entre eux par des liaisons de communication, un noeud est prévu, lequel comprend une première pluralité de transpondeurs générant et/ou recevant chacun un signal optique porteur d'information à une longueur d'onde de canal différente les uns des autres. Un système de couplage optique, qui peut comprendre un ou plusieurs commutateurs optiques reconfigurables, transfère les longueurs d'onde de canal entre une liaison connectée au noeud et la première pluralité de transpondeurs. Le système est adaptable de manière à reconfigurer son état de fonctionnement afin de diriger sélectivement certaines longueurs d'onde de canal différentes depuis la liaison sur des transpondeurs différents sans perturber le chemin optique dans le noeud traversé par n'importe quelles autres longueurs d'onde de canal. Un système de communication et de configuration est prévu, ce système transférant des transpondeurs au système de couplage optique, des données qui identifient les longueurs d'onde de canal respectives auxquelles les transpondeurs fonctionnent. En réponse aux données transférées, le système de communication et de configuration reconfigure l'état de fonctionnement du système de couplage optique.
