METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR INTERRUPTING MATERIAL FLOW IN A PIPE Abstract of the Disclosure The present invention provides a method and apparatus for cutting off the flow of liquid or gas thro- ugh an existing pipe without removing a portion of the pipe or shutting off the flow at the source. The method involves the steps of: a) exposing an intermediate portion of the pipe; b) mounting a blade guide on said pipe; and d) driving a pipe-cutting blade through said pipe; thereby sealing it shut against further flow. The apparatus comprises a) cutting means having a semi- circular cutting edge, a base against which force may be applied, and semi-circular shoulder between said base and said cutting edge, wherein the outer diameter of said cutting edge is equal to or slightly larger than the inner diameter of said pipe and the inner diameter of said shoulder is equal to or slightly smaller than the outer diameter of said pipe; and b) means for guiding said cutti- ng means into said pipe, said guiding means adapted to be secured to said pipe.
