A B S T R A C T An additive material in wire form is fed into a molten metal flowing through a downsprue of a casting mold initially at a preselected feed rate. The instantaneous pouring rate of the molted metal is determined continuously throughout the pour and the feed rate of the wire is auto- matically varied in direct relation to changes in the pouring rate in the molted metal.
