A method and an apparatus (11) for treating fluids are provided. The method generally includes cavitating and irradiating a liquid. The irradiation of the liquid may include exposing the liquid to ultraviolet radiation. The apparatus generally includes a housing (12) having a chamber (15) formed therein and defined, at least in part, by a chamber wall that transmits radiation therethrough. The apparatus also includes a cavitator in flow communication with the interior of the chamber and a radiator (10) aligned to direct radiation into the interior of the chamber. Cavitation generated by the apparatus and/or provided in the method tends to refresh the liquid exposed to the radiation, thereby increasing the rate of radiation exposure for the liquid.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil (11) pour traiter des fluides. Le procédé selon l'invention consiste, de manière générale, à engendrer une cavitation dans un liquide et à irradier celui-ci. L'irradiation du liquide peut comprendre l'étape consistant à exposer le liquide à un rayonnement ultraviolet. L'appareil selon l'invention comprend, de manière générale, un logement (12) pourvu d'une chambre (15) qui est formée dans le logement et définie, au moins partiellement, par une paroi de chambre perméable aux rayonnements. Ledit appareil comprend en outre un dispositif engendrant la cavitation, qui se trouve en communication par écoulement avec l'intérieur de la chambre, et un radiateur (10) qui est aligné pour diriger un rayonnement vers l'intérieur de la chambre. Le phénomène de cavitation généré par l'appareil et/ou engendré lors dudit procédé va renouveler le liquide exposé au rayonnement, ce qui augmente la vitesse à laquelle le liquide est exposé au rayonnement.
