ABSTRACT A method of killing field weeds, such as root weeds, couch and the like, by means of chemicals by carrying out the killing in connection with harvesting of a crop, such as corn or feeding-peas, killer being applied to the weeds immediately after the crop has been harvested and lifted from the field but before any crop residues left, such as straw, are redeposited on the field. An apparatus for killing root weeds includes a weed killer applicator means placed on a harvester between the harvesting table of the harvester and its ejector for crop residues. The applicator means extend transversely of the driving direction and may be divided into sections which are selectively engagable and disengageable.
