A method and apparatus for cutting a braided wire stent to a predetermined length such that a ball or sphere is formed on the end of each cut wire of the stent. These spheres are advantageous in that they provide added comfort to the patient and also act against the other wires of the stent to prevent the stent from becoming unbraided during the process of collapsing and expanding the stent such as is done when the stent is being inserted into a patient. The apparatus releasably holds and precisely positions the wires while the spheres are being formed.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif destinés à couper une endoprothèse tressée selon une longueur prédéterminée de façon qu'une sphère soit formée à l'extrémité de chaque fil coupé de cette endoprothèse. Ces sphères sont avantageuses en ce qu'elles offrent un confort accru au patient et agissent sur les autres fils de l'endoprothèse de manière à empêcher cette dernière de se défaire lors d'une opération de compression et d'extension inhérente à l'insertion de cette endoprothèse dans le corps d'un patient. Ce dispositif permet de retenir les fils de manière libérable et de les placer avec précision pendant la formation des sphères.
