ABSTRACT Book-bindings or the like are made from a sheet of material and from a hot-melt strip, by aligning the hot- melt strip on a substrate, and aligning the sheet of material with and placing it on the hot-melt strip. The sheet of material is pressed against the hot-melt strip to bond to it, at least one fold line being formed into the sheet of material by pressing it against a bending edge in the vicinity of a longitudinal side of the hot-melt strip. The fold line(s) is (are) formed only after the bonding between the hot-melt strip and the sheet of material. The bending edge(s) upon termination of the first compression stage is (are) moved underneath the sheet of material until being in a position below the anticipated fold line. Thereby the sheet of material is lifted until the hot-melt strip is raised off the substrate and the sheet of material thereupon is pressed in a second compression step against the bending edge(s).
