A continuous method for making a polymeric bristle subassembly using the steps of: continuously forming a wrap (6) of polymeric filaments by wrapping at least one filament (1) around the axis of at least a three sided mandrel having a moving cable support (4) on each corner running the length of the mandrel on the exterior corner of the mandrel capable of supporting and moving the polymeric filaments of the wrap (5) along the length of the mandrel; feeding at least one base string (8) outside of the wrap of polymeric filaments to a selected portion of the mandrel as required to form the subassembly, such as the corner or side of the mandrel, while the polymeric filaments of the wrap (6) are being moved the length of the mandrel; bonding the base string and the polymeric filaments of the wrap together by simultaneously pressing the base string in contact with the filaments of the wrap and applying energy to the base string and the polymeric filaments of the wrap; and cutting the polymeric filaments of the wrap at a point downstream of where the polymeric filaments of the wrap are bonded with the base string to form at least one bristle subassembly (11) having at least one row of filament segments connected to at least one base string. An apparatus for making the subassemblies is also part of this invention. Other aspects of this invention are a continuous method of making a bristle subassembly (11) wherein the base string is omitted and the filaments of the wrap are bonded to each other through the use of an energy source, or the use of a polymeric bead to bond the filaments together or use of a solvent or an adhesive to bond the polymeric filaments of the wrap together to form a bristle subassembly.
Ce procédé continu de fabrication d'un sous-ensemble de poils polymériques comprend les étapes suivantes consistant: à former un enroulement (6) de filaments polymériques en enroulant au moins un filament (1), autour de l'axe d'un mandrin possédant au moins trois côtés et comprenant un support (4) de câble mobile, au niveau de chaque coin, le câble courant sur la longueur du mandrin, sur le coin extérieur du mandrin, et pouvant supporter les filaments polymériques des spires (5) et les déplacer, sur la longueur du mandrin; à fournir, au besoin, au moins une ficelle support (8), à l'extérieur de l'enroulement des filaments polymériques, sur une portion choisie du mandrin, telle que le coin ou côté du mandrin, afin de former le sous-ensemble, pendant que les filaments polymériques de l'enroulement (6) sont déplacés sur la longueur du mandrin; à lier ensemble la ficelle support et les filaments polymériques des spires, en pressant simultanément sur la ficelle pour la mettre en contact avec les filaments, et à appliquer une certaine énergie sur la ficelle et les filaments polymériques et à couper les filaments polymériques des spires au niveau d'un point se situant en aval de l'endroit où ils sont liés à la ficelle, de manière à former au moins un sous-ensemble de poils (11) possédant au moins une rangée de segments de filaments connectés à au moins une ficelle support. L'invention concerne encore un dispositif de fabrication de ces sous-ensembles. D'autres aspects de l'invention portent sur un procédé en continu de fabrication d'un sous-ensemble de poils (11), dans lequel on n'utilise pas de ficelle support, les filaments des spires étant liés les uns aux autres par l'intermédiaire d'une source d'énergie, ou par utilisation d'un cordon polymère destiné à lier les filaments ensemble, ou par l'utilisation d'un solvant ou d'un adhésif destiné à lier ensemble ces filaments afin de former un sous-ensemble de poils.
