Method of, and apparatus for, presenting bags (4) for the packaging of products such as cheese characterised by the steps of manipulating the bag externally using a hinged flap (17) and a gripping device (7) of vacuum cups holding the top surface of the bag so that the mouth of the bag is at least partially open, and inserting a spreading device which includes at least two horizontal spreading members (30, 31) into the at least partially and sufficiently open mouth of the bag, and moving apart the spreading members to further open the bag, and inserting a product into the bag via the now open mouth of the bag.
