ABSTRACT Disclosed is an apparatus and method for manufacturing a body provided at one end with a surface of revolution the axis of which is aligned with a predetermined longitudinal axis of the body. The apparatus comprises a mechanism for the compensation of the osscillations which the free end of the body suffers during its rotation while a surface of revolution, the axis of which coincides with the predetermined axis of the body, is machined at one end of the body. The mechanism is disposed around an assembly comprising a mandrel at the end of a rotatable shaft which is either an elastically flexible shaft or an articulated shaft with at least an elastic joint. The body is secured in a projecting manner in the mandrel, and the mechanism includes a bearing surrounding a component of the assembly. A plurality of mechanisms generating oscillating mechanical forces against the bearing are guided by signals deriving from the rotation of the shaft to provide phase and amplitude synchronization and compensation of the oscillations.
