The subject matter of this invention relates to a method and apparatus for making mats of continuous glass fiber strands in which a heated calendering roll and continuous belt are used to compact the mat, expel excess moisture, melt, and/or cure resin previously distributed throughout the glass strand. The resin may be deposited in the mat in the form of a powdered resin or as a continuous thread of material that is combined with the remaining strands that form the mat as the glass strands are projected onto the surface of a moving conveyor to form the mat.
Méthode et appareil de fabrication de tapis à partir de fils de fibres de verre en continu où un rouleau de calandrage chauffé et une courroie en continu sont utilisés pour comprimer le tapis et en extraire l'humidité résiduelle, pour faire fondre et/ou traiter la résine répartie antérieurement dans la préparation de fibres de verre. La résine peut être déposée sur le tapis sous forme de poudre ou sous forme de fil de matériau en continu qui se combine avec les autres fils pour constituer le tapis, étant donné que les fils de verre sont projetés à la surface d'un transporteur en mouvement pour former le tapis.
