ABSTRACT A method and apparatus for applying a coating to a conductor in a single pass, to produce magnet wire with a coating having favourable concentricity and continuity characteristics. The apparatus includes an entrance die, an exit die and a die block therebetween, The entrance and exit dies include a throat portion and an entrance opening larger than the throat portion. The die block has an interior passage forming a die chamber which is filled with flowable hardenable material under pressure, from a reservoir. Pay-out and take-up devices are adapted to feed wire through said entrance die, said die passage and hence through said exit die. Upon the wire entering the die apparatus the converging interior wall provides a surface adjacent to which the material creates a support of coating material such that the wire does not contact the die and the wire is centered in the die throats and forms a continuous and concentric layer of coating on the wire.
