Abstract In a method for measuring a force (S), a beam (2, 3) which is axially loaded by the force is set into resonance oscillations. The existing frequency (f) of the resonance oscillations is determined and from this one ascertains the force from the formula Image CO and C1 are quantities depending on properties of the beam (2, 3). The values CO and C1 can be corrected according to temperature if the beam (2, 3) is simultaneously excited into the resonance state by two frequencies (f1, f3) which are substantially in the ratio of two whole numbers to each other. A measuring apparatus comprises an oscillator (11) between to nodes (7, 8; 9, 10) of the beam (2, 3). A sensor (14) serves to detect the existing frequency. An exciter circuit (18) makes the excitation frequency follow the resonance frequency with the aid of the existing frequency.
