A test signal generator (2) has a pseudo-random code generator (20) for generating a pseudo-random code in a burst form and with keeping the continuity of the code, and operates intermittently in a burst mode in response to operation control signals from circuits (22, 24). During a single burst period, a pseudo-random code string is generated at a certain sequence in such a way that the first code of the pseudo-random code string generated in this burst period follows the last code of a pseudo-random code string generated during the immediately preceding burst period.
