A measuring solution containing an electrochemiluminescent material and an auxiliary material for assisting luminescence is introduced into a cell and subjected to an electrode reaction to detect the electrochemiluminescence caused by the disappearance of ions during the electrode reaction. In such a detection method, the current supplied to the measuring solution is controlled.
