2047229 9110133 PCTABS00006 A device (18) for measuring entrained air in concrete, includes a needle tube (22) for insertion into the concrete, the needle tube (22) having a distal end; an optical fiber (20) extending through the needle tube (22) to the distal end, with the end of the optical fiber and the distal end of the needle tube being ground to a have sharp conical angle; a laser diode which produces laser light; a coupling device (16) which supplies the laser light from the laser diode to the optical fiber (20) and which separates the light reflected back through the optical fiber; and a photodetector (26) which converts the received light from the coupling device (16) to an electrical signal corresponding to the intensity of the reflected light.
