Abstract Apparatus for the mixing of liquids within a vessel which utilizes at least one pump in fluidic communication with the liquid in the vessel to create a streamflow of the liquid into a draft tube disposed within the vessel. Pumps are positioned with respect to the draft tube to direct primary streamflows of liquid through the wall of the draft tube to thereby induce an additional flow of liquid through the inlet of the draft tube. The primary streamflows intersect within the draft tube inter- mediate the ends thereof and both the primary and induced streamflows pass to an outlet end of the draft tube whereby to create continuous circulation of the liquid within the vessel when the pumps are actuated. In alternative embodiments, the pumps may be offset to produce a helical streamflow within the draft tube. The draft tube also may be divided into two or more sections whereby additional inlets or outlets may be provided intermediate the ends of the tube. A method of mixing the fluid within the vessel is provided wherein the mixing apparatus, including an upright draft tube, may be placed within the vessel and the pumps actuated to generate both the primary and induced flow of liquid into and through the draft tube to circulate and mix the liquid contents of the vessel.
