A method and apparatus for analyzing molecular systems with special-purpose hardware. An entire molecular mechanics calculation is implemented on a programmable logic device (PLD) integrated circuit (IC). This single IC accelerator (15) is achieved by run-time reprogramming of the PLD to handle different terms in the molecular mechanics calculation.

L'invention concerne un proc~d~ et un appareil destin~s ~ des syst­mes d'analyse mol~culaire ~ l'aide d'un mat~riel sp~cialis~ reconfigurable. Un calcul total de m~canique mol~culaire est mis en oeuvre sur un circuit int~gr~ (IC) (sur une seule puce) d'un dispositif ~ logique programmable (PLD). On obtient un acc~l~rateur IC unique par reprogrammation d'ex~cution du PLD afin de manipuler diff~rents termes dans le calcul de m~canique mol~culaire.
