A method and an apparatus for remote monitoring of analog me- ters employ a Hough Transform on the edge points of the meter scale to obtain the centre of the scale (8, 9, 10). The graduation marks and the needle are detected from the inten- sity profile along various radii (11, 12, 13). Thereby the meter reading can be flexibly adopted to different meter scales during an easy training process. The method can be modified for oblique reading of the scale.
