The invention concerns the monitoring of the level of compaction of a soil surface undergoing compaction by means of an impact compactor which includes a rotatable, multi-sided compactor mass that applies periodic impact blows to the soil surface when rolled over that surface. In accordance with the invention, data related to the level of compaction of the soil surface is derived, during compaction of the soil surface, from the deceleration of the compactor mass as it impacts the soil surface. This is achieved using one or more accelerometers mounted on the impact compactor. The invention also concerns a soil compaction apparatus having the facility to monitor the level of compaction of the soil as compaction proceeds.
L'invention concerne le contrôle du degré de compactage de la surface d'un sol au cours d'une opération de compactage à l'aide d'un compacteur opérant par impacts utilisant une masse rotative de compactage à plusieurs côtés qui vient frapper le sol à mesure qu'elle roule sur sa surface. Selon l'invention, les données concernant le niveau de compactage de la surface du sol sont dérivées durant l'opération de compactage de la surface du sol à partir de la décélération de la masse du compacteur quand elle vient frapper la surface du sol.
