There is described a method o monitoring the structure of a tooth comprising: - placing an electrode carrier, having at least three electrodes, adjacent the tooth such that the electrodes contact at least one of the occlusal, approximal or free smooth surfaces of the tooth; selecting pairs of the carrier electrodes, one electrode of each selected pair to act as a contact electrode, and the other as a counter electrode; for each selected pair of electrodes, passing an alternating electrical current between the electrodes so as to form a circuit from the electrodes and a respective part of the tooth at least between the electrodes, and monitoring the electrical response for the circuit; and processing the monitored response for each pair of electrodes so as to determine structural information relating to the respective parts of the tooth. Apparatus for carrying out the method is described. The method is preferably an impedance spectroscopy technique, for caries detection and monitoring.
On décrit un procédé de surveillance de la structure d'une dent comprenant : - le placement d'un support d'électrodes, comportant au moins trois électrodes, contigu à la dent de telle sorte que les électrodes entrent en contact avec au moins l'une des surfaces occlusale, proximale ou lisse et dégagée de la dent, - la sélection de paires d'électrodes du support, une électrode de chaque paire sélectionnée devant agir comme électrode de contact, et l'autre comme contre électrode, - pour chaque paire sélectionnée d'électrodes, la circulation d'un courant électrique alternatif entre les électrodes de façon à former un circuit à partir des électrodes et une partie respective de la dent comprise au moins entre les électrodes, ainsi que la surveillance de la réponse électrique du circuit et, - le traitement de la réponse observée pour chaque paire d'électrode de façon à déterminer des informations de structure se rapportant aux parties respectives de la dent. On décrit un dispositif destiné à exécuter le procédé. Le procédé est de préférence une technique spectroscopique par impédance en vue de la détection et de la surveillance de caries.
