A motor assembly (12) includes a control sub-assembly (14) configured to be mounted either remotely or integrally to a motor. The control sub-assembly includes a control housing (18), a control housing cover (16), electronic control components, and at least one sensing wire (36) connected to the motor. The control housing cover (16) includes a first attachment portion (20) and a second attachment portion (32). The first attachment portion (20) attaches the control housing cover (16) to the control housing (18) and the second attachment portion (32) attaches the control housing cover (56) to the motor. If the control sub-assembly (14) is to be mounted remotely from the motor, the second attachment portion (32) is not connected to the motor.
