ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a method and apparatus for moving a bed of rotating cylindrical objects in a furnace, oven or kiln. The bed of cylindrical objects is divided into two layers between the facing walls of a vertical passage through the apparatus, the cylindrical objects being non-contiguous so that each object is rotatable on one of the walls and the two adjacent objects in the other of the two layers. Rotation and movement of the cylindrical objects may be obtained by various means which may be independently operable.
