A method of moving leaf objects and subtrees in computer networks that employ a distributed network directory is disclosed. The method employs the existing directories and an authentication procedure for each server. A first object that is under the physical control of the administrator of one partition of the distributed network directory requests access to a second object that is under the physical control of the administrator of another partition of the distributed network directory. The directory verifies that the access control list of the first object includes the second object. The access control list of the second object is then checked to verify that it includes a reference to the first object as an object that is permitted access to the second object. As a result, access is only granted in response to requests from objects that appear in the access control list of the second object. A method of synchronizing the access control lists based upon an authoritative access control list is also disclosed.
Procédé de déplacement de feuilles et de sous-embranchements dans un réseau d'ordinateurs recourant à un annuaire de réseau dispersé utilisant pour chaque serveur les annuaires existants et des procédures d'authentification. Un premier objet se trouvant sous le contrôle physique de l'administrateur d'une des sections de l'annuaire sollicite l'accès à un second objet se trouvant sous le contrôle physique de l'administrateur d'une autre section de l'annuaire. L'annuaire vérifie que la liste des contrôles d'accès au premier objet comprend le second objet. La liste des contrôles d'accès au second objet est ensuite vérifiée pour savoir si elle comporte une mention relative au premier objet indiquant que son accès au second objet est autorisé. Il en résulte que l'accès n'est autorisé qu'en réponse à des demandes émanant d'objets figurant dans la liste de contrôle des accès au second objet. L'invention porte également sur un procédé de synchronisation des listes de contrôle des accès basé sur une liste de contrôle des accès donnant les autorisations.
