A method and apparatus are disclosed for communicating between devices in a network. The invention allows the combination of TDM and ATM signals in a frame for communication over a communications link. In accordance with the method of the invention, a frame is formed in a first device. The frame comprises a predetermined number of bytes. Some of the bytes carry time division multiplexed time slot data while other bytes carry asynchronous transfer mode cell data. The frame is sent to a second device over a communications link.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil pour communiquer entre des dispositifs d'un réseau. L'invention permet de combiner les signaux MRT et MTA dans une trame acheminée par une ligne de communication. Selon le procédé de l'invention, une trame est formée dans le premier dispositif. La trame comprend un nombre prédéterminé d'octets. Certains des octets transportent des informations de crénaux temporels permettant multiplexés par découpage du temps, pendant que d'autres octets contiennent des données de cellules pour un transfert en mode asynchrone. La trame est envoyée à un second dispositif par une ligne de communication.
