Methods and apparatus for assigning bandwidth to a network based on two or more different service levels. In an exemplary embodiment, video on-demand (VOD) session requests within a service group of an HFC cable network are assigned bandwidth such that maximum opportunity is given to grant HD VOD request among SD VOD requests, while meeting the goal of minimizing service disruption by spreading the sessions over multiple QAM channels, and limiting the maximum number of active VOD sessions of any kind.

L'invention concerne des procédés et des dispositifs pour l'attribution de largeur de bande à un réseau sur la base de deux ou plus de deux niveaux de service différents. A titre d'exemple, des demandes de session de vidéo à la demande (VOD) dans un groupe de services de réseau câblé hybride fibre/coaxial font l'objet d'une attribution de largeur de bande qui vise à assurer au maximum la VOD haute définition en répondant aux demandes de VOD standard, tout en réduisant au minimum les perturbations de service par l'étalement des sessions sur plusieurs canaux à modulation d'amplitude en quadrature, et en limitant le nombre maximum de sessions VOD actives de tel ou tel type.
