A method and device are provided for an improved system and method of estimating the noise floor of a wideband signal without full knowledge of the nature of the narrowband signals contained therein, and provides digital characteristics to allow real- time signal processing with low levels of computational complexity. The method and device require very little a priori knowledge of the nature of the signals, allow both robust performance in non-ideal environments, and automated maximum sensitivity threshold setting

Méthode et dispositif pour améliorer un système et une méthode servant à évaluer le bruit de fond d'un signal à large bande sans avoir une connaissance complète de la nature des signaux à bande étroite qui y sont contenus, ainsi que pour fournir des caractéristiques numériques qui permettent de traiter des signaux en temps réel à des niveaux de complexité algorithmique faibles. La méthode et le dispositif nécessitent très peu de connaissances a priori de la nature des signaux et offrent à la fois un fonctionnement robuste dans des environnements inadaptés et un réglage automatique du seuil de sensibilité maximale.
