The present invention is a method and apparatus (vessel) for providing a heat transfer rate from a reaction chamber through a wall to a heat transfer chamber substantially matching a local heat transfer rate of a catalytic thermal chemical reaction. The key to the invention is a thermal distance defined on a cross-sectional plane through the vessel inclusive of a heat transfer chamber, reaction chamber and a wall between the chambers. The cross-sectional plane is perpendicular to a bulk flow direction of the reactant stream, and the thermal distance is a distance between a coolest position and a hottest position on the cross-sectional plane. The thermal distance is of a length wherein the heat transfer rate from the reaction chamber to the heat transfer chamber substantially matches the local heat transfer rate.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif (cuve) permettant d'établir un coefficient d'échange thermique entre une chambre de réaction et une chambre d'échange thermique, à travers une paroi, ce coefficient correspondant sensiblement à un coefficient d'échange thermique local dans une réaction chimique thermique par voie catalytique. L'élément essentiel est la distance thermique définie sur un plan de coupe transversale à travers la cuve, y compris la chambre d'échange thermique, la chambre de réaction et une paroi séparant les chambres. Le plan de coupe transversale est perpendiculaire à un sens d'écoulement principal du flux réactif, et la distance thermique s'entend de la distance entre une position qui correspond à la température la plus froide et une position qui correspond à la température la plus chaude sur le plan de coupe transversale. La distance thermique est une longueur pour laquelle le coefficient d'échange thermique entre la chambre de réaction et la chambre d'échange thermique équivaut sensiblement au coefficient d'échange thermique local.
