ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for producing a stream of nitrogen independent of a stream of carbon dioxide which is substantially nitrogen free, comprises separating nitrogen from air to provide said nitrogen stream. A substantially nitrogen free carbon containing fluid is combusted with oxygen. The oxygen is derived as the by-product from the nitrogen separation step to provide the substantially nitrogen free stream of carbon dioxide. Apparatus in which such process conducted is also disclosed.
