A method and apparatus for augmenting the coalescence of water in a water-in-oil emulsion. The apparatus includes a tubular vessel (72) having a cylindrical side wall and opposed ends (74, 78). A tangential inlet (92) in the cylindrical side wall is adjacent one of the vessel ends (74). A tubular electrode (94) having an external diameter less than the internal diameter of the vessel extends concentrically within the vessel from the one end less than the entire length of the vessel. An elongated electrode (96) extends axially and concentrically within the tubular electrode (94) from the one end. An outlet (108) is provided in the one end between the tubular electrode (94) and the elongated electrode (96). The inlet (92) and outlet (108) serve to cause fluid to initially flow through the vessel in a circumferential path outside the tubular electrode and thereafter axially through the tubular electrode to the outlet. An electrical potential is applied between the electrodes and the vessel.
L'invention se rapporte à un procédé et un appareil servant à augmenter la coalescence de l'eau dans une émulsion eau dans huile. L'appareil comprend un récipient tubulaire (72) comportant une paroi latérale cylindrique et des extrémités opposées (74, 78). Une admission tangentielle (92) de la paroi latérale cylindrique se trouve à côté d'une des extrémités (74) du récipient. Une électrode tubulaire (94), d'un diamètre externe inférieur au diamètre interne du récipient, s'étend de manière concentrique dans ce récipient depuis l'extrémité inférieure à la longueur totale du récipient. Une électrode allongée (96) s'étend axialement et de manière concentrique dans l'électrode tubulaire (94) depuis l'extrémité. Un orifice d'évacuation (108) est ménagé dans cette extrémité entre l'électrode tubulaire (94) et l'électrode allongée (96). L'orifice d'admission (92) et l'orifice d'évacuation (108) servent à faire écouler d'abord le fluide dans le récipient dans une voie circonférentielle se trouvant à l'extérieur de l'électrode tubulaire, puis axialement à faire passer le fluide par l'électrode tubulaire pour le diriger vers l'orifice d'évacuation. Un potentiel électrique est appliqué enter les électrodes et le récipient.
