ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method of flame spraying or gunniting a converter lining, in which method a flame together with a flow of the pulverized refractory-fuel mixture are directed onto the surface of the converter lining to be spread over its height as two oppositely directed flame jets. An apparatus for carrying the above method into effect comprises a lance formed with ducts for the separate supply of oxygen and a mixture of pulverized refractory material and fuel to respective nozzles built into the oppositely spaced walls of the lance and arranged therein in coaxially aligned pairs. The pairs of nozzles are positioned along each wall in a row. The lance is rotatable by means of a drive and is secured on a carriage mounted on guides for longitudinal movement therealong enabled by a suitable drive.
