ABSTRACT METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PERFORATING METAL STRIP Apparatus for perforating metallic strip for use in the manufacture of pocket electrode plates for alkaline batteries includes two arrays of needles 6, means to reciprocate the needles in synchronism vertically, means to advance the strip incrementally through the apparatus and two sets of die plates 16, 18. Each set of die plates is associated with a respective one of the needle arrays and comprises parallel spaced plates extending in the direction of the length of the strip and adapted to contact the underside of the strip. In use, the needles are reciprocated and the first array of needles makes a series of first holes whilst the strip is supported between the holes by the die plates 16. The strip is advanced one or more increments and the second array of needles makes a second series of holes forming a quincunx configuration with the first holes whilst the strip is supported between the second holes by the die plates 18.
