Techniques for performing inter-frequency handoff in a wireless communication network are described. An access terminal may acquire a first sector on a first frequency (e.g., at power up), receive an overhead message from the first sector, obtain neighbor list information from the overhead message, and store this information. The access terminal may be directed from the first frequency to a second frequency, e.g., to balance network load. The access terminal may perform handoff to a second sector on the second frequency. This handoff may be unsuccessful if the access terminal is within the coverage of the first sector but outside the coverage of the second sector, even though the two sectors may be co-located. If the handoff is unsuccessful, then the access terminal may determine a neighbor sector based on the stored neighbor list information, then attempt acquisition of the neighbor sector, and perform handoff to the neighbor sector if acquired.
L'invention concerne des techniques pour effectuer un transfert interfréquence dans un réseau de communications sans fil. Un terminal d'accès peut acquérir un premier secteur sur une première fréquence (par exemple au démarrage), recevoir un message de surdébit du premier secteur, extraire des informations de liste de voisins du message de surdébit, et stocker ces informations. Le terminal d'accès peut être dirigé de la première fréquence à une seconde fréquence, par exemple pour équilibrer une charge réseau. Le terminal d'accès peut effectuer un transfert vers un second secteur sur la seconde fréquence. Ce transfert peut échouer si le terminal d'accès se trouve dans la zone de couverture du premier secteur mais en dehors de la zone de couverture du second secteur, bien que les deux secteurs puissent être positionnés l'un à côté de l'autre. Si le transfert échoue, alors le terminal d'accès peut déterminer un secteur voisin à partir des informations de liste de voisins stockés, puis tenter une acquisition du secteur voisin et effectuer un transfert vers le secteur voisin s'il est acquis.
