Disclosed is a method of photochemically oxidizing gaseous organic compounds, anapparatus for photochemically oxidizing gaseous organic compounds, a lining insert (66) for an apparatus for photochemically oxidizing gaseous organic compounds, and a method for producing such a lining. The principal method comprises: (a) exposing gaseous organic compounds to ultraviolet light to oxidize the gaseous organic compounds into gaseous oxidation products; and (b) reacting the gaseous oxidation products with an internal surface of a reaction chamber (46), the internal surface comprising a dry porous cementitious and sorbent material which is chemically reactive with the gaseous oxidation products, with the gaseous oxidation products being reacted with the dry porous cementitious material to produce solid reaction products incorporated in sidewalls of the chamber.
Sont décrits une méthode et un appareil d'oxydation photochimique de composés organiques gazeux, un revêtement interne (66) de cet appareil et une méthode de fabrication de ce revêtement. La méthode principale consiste: (a) à exposer des composés organiques gazeux à la lumière ultraviolette pour les oxyder et obtenir des produits d'oxydation gazeux et (b) à provoquer une réaction chimique entre les produits d'oxydation gazeux et la surface interne d'une chambre de réaction (46). Cette surface est constituée d'un ciment poreux sec et d'un sorbant qui réagit chimiquement au contact des produits d'oxydation gazeux. La réaction de ceux-ci avec le ciment entraîne l'intégration de produits de réaction solides aux parois de la chambre.
